FOUNDATION AND VALUES OF TREASURING CHRIST CHURCH

Treasuring Christ Church is a family of believers committed to treasuring Christ in how we think as Christians, what we say as His people, and in everything we do as His earthly representatives, the church. When one treasures something or someone, they highly prize it/them as valuable, costly, or rare. Paul, speaking to Corinthian believers, described the Gospel as “the glory of Christ” and charges the church of Jesus not to veil the Gospel, rather “We have this treasure in jars of clay…so that the life of Jesus may be also manifested in our bodies. “ (2Corinthians 4)

We believe the church is meant to be the “Appearance of the Gospel in the world around us, it is what the Gospel look like when played out in people’s lives” (Mark Dever).

We will treasure Christ through prioritizing what He has said – the Scriptures are authoritative in our lives and the local church. This will manifest itself through a regular diet of Biblically faithful expository teaching from the pulpit; a commitment to grounding the church body in sound doctrine through ongoing teaching (small groups, classes, singing, catechism, resources); dealing with matters that arise within the church and Christian life by looking to Scripture to shape our understanding.

We treasure Christ by proclaiming the central message all Scripture points towards – Redemption
through the person and work of Jesus Christ
. - TCC will remain committed to being shaped by the Gospel in our daily lives and as the church of Jesus Christ. Redemption in and through Christ is the greatest need in the lives of those who live
within the community of Darien. We will share Christ with our neighbors, friends, family members, the community where we live, and develop partnerships to this end throughout the world.
“I will not believe that thou hast tasted of the honey of the gospel if thou can eat it all to thyself.” - Charles Spurgeon

We treasure Christ when we respond to opportunities of service among others within the community of Darien and beyond in the name of Christ. - We believe a local church should care the deeply for the local community it serves and
demonstrate this. TCC will be sensitive to the current and changing needs of Darien and the surrounding area, and engage intentionally, regularly, and sacrificially that Christ might be known.

We treasure Christ by investing in one another’s lives for the purpose of true growth in Christ. - Those who make up TCC will encourage one another in our following of Christ and help our brothers and sisters avoid being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin (Hebrews 3). We are the workmanship of Christ created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). We will meet regularly together for corporate worship, encourage a culture among us where it is the norm to seek out others among us for true Christian fellowship, and with love and truth confront those who cling to sin rather than our Lord.

Ultimately we treasure Christ so that all may see His Glory. - The glory of Christ, His perfections, never expire and are to be the primary focus of His church. Those who consider TCC their spiritual family understand the church to be Christ’s means to display His glory; therefore, we will conduct the affairs of the church with the hope that when those around Darien talk about TCC, they describe the flawless character of God.
